Preparing for Disaster - Disaster Planning & Response

Preparing Your CCR&Rs

You will not be able to effectively help your community unless your organization is prepared to handle a disaster internally as well. Make sure that your organization has a written, updated disaster plan in place, and that all staff are familiar with the plan and know what steps they should follow in the event of an emergency. Your plan should include:

bullet How you will protect the physical safety of your employees and customers.

bullet How you will protect the organization's resources - buildings, equipment, critical computer and hard copy records, etc.

bullet How you will continue to provide, if possible, key services during a disaster.

bullet How you will recover from a disaster.

Use the Emergency Management Guide to Business and Industry or the Disaster Planning Toolkit for the Small Business Owner to develop your disaster plan. Putting together a comprehensive plan can seem overwhelming, but don't panic! Start with the most important things: emergency contacts lists and communications procedures, an evacuation and shelter-in-place plan, and making sure you have a disaster supplies kit onsite.
