Research and Data
NACCRRA research staff both conduct original research and collect data from a variety of government sources to present all data related to child care in a central location in an easy-to-understand and use format. Research and data collection at NACCRRA is intended to provide data collection, analysis, and reporting support to policy activities; to support other divisions & programs within NACCRRA; and, to provide information to member CCR&Rs and State Network Offices.
Research in Progress
- Developing Sampling Plan
NACCRRA received funding from the A.L. Mailman Foundation, Inc. to create a national sampling plan for CCR&Rs. This will not only allow NACCRRA to collect data more efficiently and scientifically from local CCR&Rs, but also allow for the data to be generalized at the national level. To develop the sampling plan, NACCRRA collected some basic information from local CCR&Rs.
If you are from a local CCR&R agency and have not yet completed the profile, please click here and take 5 minutes to do so now.
- Membership Surveys
NACCRRA is currently engaged in surveying the membership on two major topics
- the training provided by member CCR&Rs to child care providers and the trainers who train them (click
here (2.4 MB) for a preliminary look at the data); and
- compensation, i.e., salary and benefits, for key positions in CCR&Rs (to see a list of positions, click
here (13 KB)).
NACCRRA is also continuing to accept responses to the CCR&R Profile – if you are from a CCR&R and have not yet completed yours, please take 5 minutes of your time to do so now.
NACCRRA with funding from The Anne E. Casey Foundation collected information from CCR&Ramp;s in selected areas on the supply and cost of child care within certain low-income communities. Now, NACCRRA is attempting to get a better understanding of informal child care in these communities
- Research with Parents
NACCRRA has just completed a series of 14 focus groups with parents of children younger than 8 years old. Results from the focus groups are available (2.4 MB). NACCRRA has also recently completed a national poll with parents of children under the age of six. Results from the poll are now available.
- Research with Providers
NACCRRA is engaged in evaluating the programs sponsored by the Department of Defense. Collecting information on child care providers and tracking the impact of the training they receive as a part of these programs is one of NACCRRA’s more important current research efforts.
Child Care in America Fact Sheet
The data profile includes the need for and use of child care in the United States today, its current cost, quality, and impact on America’s children, families, and the economy. It also provides key data on the nation’s Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) system, which helps families, child care providers, and communities find, provide, and plan for affordable, quality child care.

Methodologies
- Surveying Members
NACCRRA has been surveying its members using SurveyMonkey on the web along with phone follow-ups. A sampling methodology of local CCR&R is currently being developed.
- Other
NACCRRA also conducts focus groups with parents and child care providers and has plans to conduct more telephone or web-based surveys with both these groups.
